Happy Birthday to Aaliyah Dana Haughton (January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001), a true beauty who was talented AND classy. She was accomplished in music, sparked the world with her dance moves, and was successful in movies as well. For such a short life, she managed to leave a legacy that many haven’t. She would have been 32 years old today, but I know she’s in Heaven celebrating it there. R.I.P baby girl <3
“I’m the interpreter. I’m the one who takes your words and brings them to life. I was trained to sing and dance and laugh, and that’s what I want to do.…All I can do is leave it in God’s hands and hope that my fans feel where I’m coming from.”

In honor of Martin Luther King day tomorrow, I thought it appropriate to post one of my favorite pictures of him: with a smile. I think too often we take for granted the holiday and the man who we are honoring, a man who in arguably the toughest and darkest time for the African-American race preached a different message, a man who met dogs, abusive police officers, segregation, and jail with a different approach. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but this picture to me speaks a million more, and they are words and of hope and love. His real birthday is today, so in light of that, I say Happy Birthday Dr. King, and thank you.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
